My wife and I were just at our local auto show this weekend and we’re really impressed by what GM and Honda are offering these days. I really liked the new volt (it’s a little bigger than the new cruze with a 4 series GC like hatch in the back) but couldn’t remember if there are still heavy government rebates on it.

I live in Ohio, does anybody know what the current EV rebates are? The volt might be worth it instead of the cruze or civic if I can get a good price.

New corvette grand sport for your time.

We actually just bought one and yes, $7500 tax credit from the fed. See http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/taxevb.sht… for current rebates.

She had a Fusion Energi, which was a great car but someone ran a stop sign and it got totaled. She wanted the better range of the Volt. So far it’s a great car.

Edit: If you just went to a local auto show in Ohio, you might be near us in Columbus. We went to Coughlin in Pataskala. It was a pretty painless experience, just a little bit of the normal dealer BS.

Hey! Yep, central Ohio resident here! Do you have a 240 volt plug for the volt? Just wondering if it's necessary or expensive.

The regular plug will charge it in 10-ish hours, so you don’t need 220. That said, I put a charger out there (openevse) because I needed an excuse to run 220 to the garage for welders and such.

Oh, that's actually a fast charge! Good to know! How much did it cost to install a 220?

It was $800 including the charger doing it myself, but I also installed a 135amp subpanel and had to run 100' of wire in a trench to the garage. So ymmv

I have a ‘13 Volt. I highly recommend a 240V plug. I went about 6 months without it, and it takes a really long time to charge on 120V. It will charge overnight, and that may be good enough for you, but I can assure you that the more you drive electric, the more you’ll love it and you will always want a faster charge. I’ve got 44,000 miles on mine now and it still makes me smile every day. I haven’t driven a ‘16 yet but I’ve seen a crap ton more of them around than the 1st gen in the last week alone!

Fed tax credit definitely still applies. I heard a couple years ago about the state of OH giving an additional rebate. Be aware that you have to have paid $7500 in taxes to fed for the federal tax credit to get you the full amount back.

I’ve got a ‘13 Volt I bought new and absolutely love it. AMA. Clipper Creek 240V charger (technically it’s just a fancy plug, the “charger” is on board the car).

edit for more info - the LCS-20 was perfect for the Volt, supplies the most it can take and only requires 20 amp breakers which my garage already had. I just checked their website and the prices are about half what they were 3 years ago when I bought mine. Also, my electric company covered 50% of the purchase and installation costs - check with your local utility company.
